I am completely opposed to the idea of connecting 39th Avenue to Nicholson Street. While it is true that eliminating dead end roads can create more convenient ways to get around the neighborhood, and redistribute traffic, it also eliminates low-traffic spaces that residents make use of on a regular basis. In this particular case, the cul-de-sac where 39th Ave terminates near Madison Ave is used by neighborhood children for recreational purposes. The fact that this is low traffic area has also made it ideal for the annual block party and, this year, the Soap Box Derby race. I question the wisdom of spending money on a feasibility study in this location in the first place. There are houses dividing the 39th Ave termination point and Nicholson Ave. How could the city possibly connect these two roads given the current situation?

The academic and cognitive benefits of second language immersion education are well-documented. Prince George's County is currently a leader in this area, boasting programs such as Caesar Chavez' dual immersion school, that can be found no where else in the DC area. Continued support for these programs is a vital step towards the goal of expanding second-language instruction in all PG County schools. Agree or disagree?

What are the structural issues that are preventing the PGCPS board and officers from dealing with big issues like infrastructure more efficiently and effectively?

Please assess the performance of Kevin Maxwell as PGCPS CEO, focusing not just on controversies (administrative leave, pay raises, etc), but also on what you see as his successes.

I apologize for not addressing specific items in this plan but I wanted to outline a few concerns I have regarding sustainability. With more development slated along the route 1 corridor, we need to start planning now for increased traffic volume. I would endorse ideas like a traffic circle at Jefferson & Route 1. Long term I think we also need to designate some retail areas as "pedestrian only." I also hope that redesigns of parks and new development will include features that can be used by the general public like splash fountains and performance platforms. Finally... I want to register my support for demolishing the current municipal building, moving the police to BB&T, relocating the Council and other staff in the county-owned building next door, and making that part of Gallatin a pedestrian walkway with retail space replacing the municipal building.
