Change is hard. I totally get it. However, this article - http://hyattsvillelife.com/now-unmapping-segregation/ details how the park got it's name and the raciest, discriminatory practices that were mandated to be part of the deal in giving the land to the City. Times have changed and we should not be honoring/memorializing the name Magruder. I've heard HOPE Park being suggested by others. Don't really care that much other than removing "Magruder".

I support this idea. I'd like to throw out a name for consideration to honor Ruby Bridges. "She was the first African-American child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960." On this Wikipedia page, you can see a black and white picture of this little girl surrounded by four marshals walking out, amidst protests. "Former United States Deputy Marshal Charles Burks later recalled, "She showed a lot of courage. She never cried. She didn't whimper. She just marched along like a little soldier, and we're all very very proud of her."" She is a little hero. There is something fitting about naming a park where all kids can play after a kid. Plus, her name evokes the sense of bridging the divide, which i really like:) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Bridges.

I'm not against this, however, I'd like to keep the discussion over a name to a minimum as the big issue is agreement to change the name. Whatever name is chosen should be done so through a process to get Citizen input.

I support this idea, and hope you'll let us know if there's anything else we should do to move it forward. Thank you Jim!
