Have questions or thoughts about the Sanctuary City ordinance? A Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, March 1st at 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the City Municipal Building, 4310 Gallatin Street.

Comments and questions posted on Speak Up will be shared with the City Council prior to the Public Hearing.

From what I can tell both Takoma Park and Baltimore are considered "sanctuary city's" but they still share information with the federal government. Would Hyattsville be pursuing the same sort of arrangement as these two cities or something else?

Sanctuary finds its root in the Latin word (sanctus) meaning holy. Insofar as the residents of Hyattsville respect one another, seek peace, embrace diversity and expect excellence, we form a holy community.

These are particularly trying times we live in. We are tempted, even encouraged, to demean others, isolate ourselves and seek the lowest common denominator with respect to civil discourse. In such an environment we should strive to become a sanctuary, a holy place, where all will be esteemed, safe and free from fear.

We support the designation of Hyattsville as a sanctuary city.
