Councilmember Erica Spell (Term: 2017-2021) was first elected to the City Council in 2017. Councilmember Spell serves as a Council Liaison to the Police and Public Safety Advisory Committee.
The Hon. Erica M. Spell is a Councilmember for Ward 5 in the City of Hyattsville, Maryland. She serves as a Council Liaison for the Police and Public Safety Advisory Committee. In addition to serving on the Hyattsville City Council, Ms. Spell is a federal government contractor for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). With more than 8 years in the international development field, Ms. Spell has held various roles in business, program, and training development at Heifer International, Ray Group International, an Creative Associates International. During her undergraduate tenure at Howard University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Ms. Spell interned for the high-profile, Senate Foreign Relations Committee then chaired by then Senator Vice President Joseph Biden along with Committee Members that included President Barack Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton. She also interned for the United States Consulate in Strasbourg, France, studied abroad in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and has volunteered or worked in countries throughout the Caribbean, South America, East Africa, and Europe. She earned a master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from American University with a concentration in International Management. Ms. Spell is a proud member of the Young Elected Officials Network. She is currently enrolled in the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance at the University of Maryland, School of Public Policy and recently returned to Howard University to pursue a doctoral degree in the Department of Political Science. Ms. Spell enjoys reading, traveling, singing on the worship team at her church, spending quality time with friends and family, and participating in educational activities with her 6-year old daughter, Zoe.
Councilmember Joseph Solomon (Term: 2015-2019) was first elected to the City Council in 2013. Councilmember Lawrence serves as a Council Liaison to the Health, Wellness and Recreation Advisory Committee.
