The City's Education Advisory Committee needs your help drafting questions for the debate! The Prince George’s County Public Schools Board of Education is responsible for overseeing public education in the county. Four people are seeking the District 3 school board seat. Whoever is elected will play an important role in addressing the needs of children in our local schools. Please share questions you would like the candidates to be asked, and/or vote for the questions submitted by others. The debate moderators will use the information provided here to create a final set of questions.

District 3 stretches from Hyattsville, Mt. Rainier, Brentwood and North Brentwood west through Chillum, Rolling Crest, and Carole Highlands and north through Adelphi. The debate will take place May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at 4310 Gallatin Street. Join us in person, watch via Comcast 71/Verizon 12, or stream online via

Please note that the City does not endorse any candidate in this election, and is assisting this event only as a service to residents.

A school board member representing District 3 must have an understanding of the difference between the operating budget and the capital improvements budget; the mechanism by which capital improvements are funded and which governmental entities are responsible; current concerns & efforts of the Hyattsville community regarding the two-year setback in funding, the rapidly disappearing possible schools sites, & the possibility that improvements will already be outdated (especially in capacity due to local growth) by the time they are constructed; and should be up-to-date on any recent State legislative events that would affect any of the preceding.

Please excuse and mentally correct the typo -- change "improvments" to "improvements" in the question; already correct in the description.
