The City's Education Advisory Committee needs your help drafting questions for the debate! The Prince George’s County Public Schools Board of Education is responsible for overseeing public education in the county. Four people are seeking the District 3 school board seat. Whoever is elected will play an important role in addressing the needs of children in our local schools. Please share questions you would like the candidates to be asked, and/or vote for the questions submitted by others. The debate moderators will use the information provided here to create a final set of questions.

District 3 stretches from Hyattsville, Mt. Rainier, Brentwood and North Brentwood west through Chillum, Rolling Crest, and Carole Highlands and north through Adelphi. The debate will take place May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at 4310 Gallatin Street. Join us in person, watch via Comcast 71/Verizon 12, or stream online via Hyattsville.org.

Please note that the City does not endorse any candidate in this election, and is assisting this event only as a service to residents.

The “minority bloc” (as labeled in the press) achieved one of its goals of getting rid of the current CEO. Since the goal of overturning the governance structure was not achieved during the last legislative session, minority bloc members presumably will continue to have that as their primary focus. Past strategies have included what the outgoing CEO referred to as “distractions,” such as continually bringing in the media and also the governor who, while popular, has made a number of moves that seem contrary to the interest of public education. As there is no reason to believe that some elected board members will cease verbal attacks on persons who are appointed to board positions, how can you as one person contribute to having the board move forward functionally on issues of primary interest to District 3?
