The City is proposing changes to the Hyattsville City Code Chapter 8 Elections, Chapter 10 Ethics, and the Board of Supervisors of Elections Rules and Regulations. The legislation includes improvements for voters and candidates, and streamlines regulations for campaign finance.

A presentation summarizing the changes and providing information on the 2019 Election was presented to Council on October 15, 2018. Residents are encouraged to review the presentation and submit comments. The full draft legislation can be viewed in the City Council Packet for October 15 on hyattsville.org/meetings.

I support the vote by mail option that is being considered for 2021. Is the council considering making this the preferred way of voting and allowing for residents to opt-out (rather than opting in)? I have seen several articles this election season suggesting that voting by mail encourages more people to vote.
